About Shawn
I quit smoking when I was 36 years old. I gained weight, quite a bit. Lost it with the help of Weight Watchers (now known as WW). Then decided to start walking, which slowly evolved into running. I was 39 when I started running. Wanting more information on keeping myself healthy, I enrolled at our local community college for a class; “Exercise Science I”. I really enjoyed it and kept taking more classes. Little did I know I was in a program to receive a “FIT Certificate”, which I later discovered readied you to take an exam to become a certified personal trainer. That was not my initial intent! I mean, seriously who wants to hire a 40-year-old trainer with zero sports background? Well anyway, long story short, I took the exam, passed and was on my way to changing my career from a desk job to a personal trainer. After about a year I was able to quit my full-time desk job and work as a trainer. That was 16 years ago and I have never looked back.
Training a wide diversity of clients is my passion, where I get absolute joy. Ranging from 19 to 95, my clients have a range of goals: keeping up with grandchildren to getting ready for a reunion, readying yourself to walk thru Spain or simply wanting to have accountability and fun while exercising. No goal is too small. My certifications include:
I work with stroke clients, Parkinson’s clients, bariatric clients, rehabbing clients, dementia clients, MS clients and many more. Most just looking to stay healthy, get as fit as they can be.
I offer multiple options for your training and your program will always be personalized to you. I really like functional fitness rather than putting people on machines, because it helps us with our daily activities like reaching something off the shelf, getting up off the toilet, taking dogs for walks and keeping up with your grandchildren. I also use high intensity interval training (HIIT) among other options. I love working on balance, strength and posture to help you be the best you can be an have the best quality of life. Together we will create a plan that works best for you.
